In Everything

"Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim His greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done." -- Psalm 105:1

I wasn't going to do it. I promise. I wasn't going to post a cliche thankful blog, but then I was laying in bed and my thoughts and pondering ran away with me. It's one of those nights where I have to write, I have to get this out so that I may rest.

I remembered this picture that my mom crosstitched many years ago:

She was working on this picture when she gave birth to my premature, still born baby brother, who was between my sister and me.

I remember her telling me this story vividly: "After coming home from the hospital, I was working on it again. And the still small voice, that we know so well, whispered, "You never thanked me for the baby." I didn't know how to thank the Lord for taking my baby. But, His Spirit lead me and I am thankful, now, for the journey." (Yes, that is the short version.)

I am humbled tonight,  as I type this on my phone, and tears plop on my pillow.
In everything..... EVERYTHING....give thanks....

In financial troubles.... give thanks
In family feuds.....give thanks
In times of uncertainty.... give thanks
In the aftermath of a painful loss.... give thanks....
In the reality that another year has gone by without the fulfillment of a promise....give thanks
In the heartache of an empty chair at the table.... give thanks
In the times where thankful is the last thing you want to be.... give thanks.
In times where loneliness overwhelms your soul....give thanks
In times where grief abounds.....give thanks

Being thankful doesn't mean that you understand or are "okay" with your circumstances. Being thankful means that you have reached a point where you understand that God has "all things suspended," in other words, He's got this. It means that we can look past my worst day and know that there are some people who have it much worse. It means that I know and trust, even when it is tough to do so, that He has us in "the palm of His hand."

So, maybe you are like me and another year has gone by without the fulfillment of a promise, or maybe finances just don't make sense, or maybe you've had a painful loss---know that He sees you in your pain and He is the author of those tears. "He sees. He knows. He cares." Look to Him, and be thankful for this season.

And can I just say how thankful I am to have such a humble and strong woman as my mom.

"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." --1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

"For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” Esther 4:14

3“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
7Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
9Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
                                                                                                             ---Matthew 5:3-12

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Until Next Time Dearies!
