Jesus and Lady Gaga

In light of multiple outbursts on social media sites that reeked with the stench of spiritual pride after Colton Dixon sang Lady Gaga's 'Bad Romance" I just want to publicly say: I'm sorry. I am sorry, Colton, that fellow "Christians" cast the first stone because of a song choice, apparently we do have non sinners on earth. (John 8:7) I was unaware. I am sorry that fellow "Christians" reverted to putting Jesus in a box. American Idol is a talent competition after all, not an I-love-Jesus-more-than-you-do-competition, we save that for prayer groups and Sunday mornings, ya see. Based on talent alone, I believe you will go far and I applaud you for sticking to your faith in the spotlight. I applaud you for always giving God the glory.  I am sorry we are holier than thou as we judged and pulled support for you because of a Lady Gaga song.... I mean obviously that's what Jesus would do!  Oh and apparently I am not considered a "good Christian...

Plastic Cross ??

“For the baby in her womb, He was the maker of the moon, He was the author of the faith that can make the mountains move” (A.Peterson   “Labor of Love”) The eve before Easter –well technically it IS Easter – I’m up trying to write school papers and due to my writer’s block, I check facebook. My newsfeed is full of pictures of plastic, commercialized Easter baskets from the “Easter Bunny”. Pastels have literally thrown up all over and I am sickened at the sight. Call me old fashioned. Call me whatever you please… But since when did Easter become so commercialized? Since when did we take Jesus out of Easter too? Since when are we more excited about chocolate bunnies and plastic eggs than we are the gift of eternal life through Jesus? Isn’t it bad enough we have “holiday trees” instead of “Christmas trees”?? Isn’t it bad enough that the gift of Jesus’ miraculous birth is overshadowed by our own “gimme gimme gimme” to an old man in a red suit??   And now…now Easter ...

Academic Honor

I have been encouraged by some friends and mentors to post this, because maybe its a big deal and honor! A paper I wrote for a senior level poetry class, the paper received a 100/A and was submitted to the Texas Tech University Second Annual Responsible Conduct of Research Conference. TTU Conference Well, the paper was accepted. This means that I will conduct further research and add more content to my paper. My school is helping me attend the conference to have the honor of presenting my paper in front of scholars. The paper will then be published and sent to grad schools all over the nation. Ok, so maybe it's a big deal....its an academic honor!! So if you are interested, here's the paper as it stands now:                                                                        Bullets of Life ...

Faith's Funny Friday: Alien Invasion

Image
In my last post you may remember me briefly mentioning a new friend of the male sex and how we were going to a Daughtry concert together; well  as promised here’s an update on just how great THAT outing was….(yes that is sarcasm) Disclaimer: This is one of the most embarrassing times of my life and  if I can laugh about it now then why not share it here? I do not usually use this type of “humor” but “it happens to everyone” just maybe not in public…. Before the concert, his dad, dad’s new girlfriend, Kyle and I ate at a place called Steamboat Bills in Lake Charles. Obviously this place served seafood of all kinds and it was at one point delicious. We made our way to the concert venue and we were early but it was fun. We sat and Kyle and I had the chance just to enjoy each other’s company. At this point, it is just a fun time hanging out…..before the alien invasion.... The concert starts at 830 and I’m not that impressed with Daughtry at all. I guess the aco...

Happy 100th post!!!!

Image
This is my 100 th blog post and I wish I had something grand or epic to celebrate it however, I will use this blog post as a catching up, because I miss you guys. (And I like to imagine you miss me!) Football season is over...and what a sad day that is! Yes, there are things to look forward to like beautiful spring days, the smoldering hot summer days by or in the pool; but let's be honest, we already have our countdown to kick of both SEC and NFL football. Here's (most of) our football family!! School this semester has been overwhelming already! I am always working on something yet I never feel like I am doing enough. (Very disheartening) Everything needs to be done yesterday!! I am getting ready to go judge a pageant again, and I am really excited! I had such a blast last year!!  My favorite part is being able to write the girls encouraging notes on their score sheets.  I remember what is was to be fifteen and let me tell you, I never had the courage o...

Truth of the matter is

Sometimes I forget to hate you It's just easier to hate her Him Them Those you lied about. No I don't trust you more than I could throw you (as the saying goes) Rather, I pity you. I pity the fact that I will forever be the one that Got away From you. I pity the fact you don't know who you are For the many facades that you wear. Aren't you tired? Aren't you tired...of the show?? I pity the fact that you know I am better off  Without y ou All facts you have to live amongst While I  move on Not away----yet--- but on On with my life, On with my dreams To obtain my moon That doesn't include you....and now Looking back It. Never. Did. You wouldve never let me obtain my moon For it was always what you wanted no matter what As for them--- Well, They really just wear a facade as you do A facade that lacks dignity Respect and Integrity Maybe now you see what you had And lost But s o do I  except I won! Harsh? Probably but so is the truth And well, Let's be honest ...

What I'm Loving Wednesday!

Image
It’s Wednesday and because I have not posted a blog in a week and because I really do enjoy WHAT I’M LOVING WEDNESDAY we will join the link up party yet again!! I am loving my Sterling Grace  necklace. Each piece is handmade and each different charm is inspired by a bible verse. This one is Colossians 3:3 which says “For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”   I am loving my rain boots for it is supposed to rain again today and I believe for the rest of the week which means bad hair and swimming to class! I am loving this new game SCRAMBLE with friends, yes that’s my new high score! This game is ridiculously addicting!!! Ok and this is an oldie but I absolutely love this caricature of myself that was done in NYC!! It’s hilarious!! No I did not have a martini or microphone in my hand (but how accurate) and no I did not have on those grandma hot pants!! I won’t point out the other thing that I find hil...
